Types of Appointments


At the practice we offer all of our patients an initial telephone consultation with a doctor, which can enable us to provide care to more patients.


Up to 70% of all medical queries can be managed on the telephone.

For example, if you have a bad back, rather than you needing to get dressed, get in the car/on the bus, arrive at the surgery, sit in the waiting room and then see a GP who may prescribe some pain relief, you can speak with a GP on the phone. The GP may prescribe you the same pain relief but can then send that prescription to a home delivery prescription service, meaning the medication could be delivered to your door the same day. Alternatively, they can send the prescription to your preferred pharmacy for collection by yourself or a friend. 


If a doctor wishes to continue the consultation by seeing you, they will book a same day appointment or arrange a time which is convenient for you.


If you call us and we are fully booked, we will offer you a telephone consultation for the following day.


Our reception team may ask for some basic details on your condition as they will then be able to signpost you to the correct clinician.


Please note that our Practice is engaging in a pilot scheme providing improved access to healthcare professionals. Working within a group of local practices, we will be offering a range of appointments each weekday between 14:00pm and 20:00pm and during selected times at weekends and bank holidays, to registered patients. Please contact our reception team for more details.


Think you might have a UTI?

An appointment may not be needed if you think you have a urine infection. Drop a urine sample in to the surgery with the form filled in (this can be collected and filled in at reception) as early in the day as possible and a nurse will test it. If there is an infection and antibiotics are needed, you will be contacted.

Home Visits

Home visits are to be requested in the morning before 10:30am. A GP will call initially to discuss the issue and arrange the home visit. Requests for visits after this time may not be fulfilled, but will be at the discretion of the doctor. Home visits are only for patients who are housebound. All efforts should be made to come in to the practice before requesting a visit.

Doctor vs. Nurse

Doctors and nurses see patients for a variety of issues. When you call to make an appointment the reception staff will book you in with whomever is appropriate to deal with your specific issues.


Call 111 now if you've been:

  • to Wuhan or Hubei Province in China in the last 14days (even if you do not have symptoms).
  • to other parts of China, including Macau and Hong Kong, in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temerature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)
  • to Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Republic of Korea or Malaysia in the last 14 days and have a cough, high tempreature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)
  • in close contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus

Do not go to a GP surgery or hospital. Call 111, stay indoors and avoid close contact with other people.
